Minister of Labour inaugurates: "The Fifth Steel Conference for Health, Environment and Occupational Safety"

His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour, stressed that the rapid scientific and technological developments witnessed by the world necessitate partners in the field of occupational safety and health to exert more efforts to create and empower a generation of cadres and competencies in this field. Specifically, to make them able to keep pace with changes and develop the occupational and preventive safety and health system to maintain the safety of workers in a way that enhances productivity levels in various establishments. This came in a speech by the Minister of Labour during his opening and sponsorship, on Sunday, of the Fifth Steel Conference for Health, Environment and Occupational Safety, organised by Foulath Holding Group, during the period from 4-8 June, under the slogan "Safety is everyone's responsibility", at the company's headquarters in Hidd Industrial City and in the presence of Mr. Dilip George, CEO of Steel Group. A number of institutions concerned with occupational safety and health from inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain also participated in the event. In its fifth edition, the conference focuses on showcasing the best successful practices for building healthier and safer organisations, companies and work environments for employees, and discusses the best recent studies in this field by experts and specialised speakers. Humaidan pointed to the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in reducing occupational diseases and accidents, which led to a significant decrease in the number of occupational accidents that occurred during the period from 2016 to 2022 by 50%, as well as a decrease in the percentage of accidents in the construction sector during the period from 2027 to 2022 by 47%. In addition, Bahrain succeeded in implementing the noon-work ban during the months of July and August of each year, where the compliance rate exceeded 98%, which reflects the employers' awareness of the humanitarian implications of this decision and its importance in protecting workers and enhancing productivity. His Excellency the Minister of Labour appreciated the holding of this conference, as it addresses the most influential topics directly related to the foundations and principles of occupational safety and health and the strengthening of the preventive safety system. H.E. Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour, inaugurated the "Career Fair 2023" held by Bahrain Polytechnic on Wednesday, at the university's headquarters in Isa Town, along with H.E. Mr. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College. In a speech during the ceremony, Humaidan stressed that the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain recognises the importance of the contributions of national and private universities and institutions concerned with education and training as a social partner within plans and programs to achieve alignment of education and training outputs geared to the needs of the labour market. He also highlighted its role in launching many pioneering national initiatives aimed at promoting the integration of graduates in the labour market and the optimal investment of national human resources. The minister pointed that these initiatives will be strengthened by launching the Employment Skills Platform at the national level, which serves the student, employer and all those concerned with the future of the labour market to know the renewed future professions, and work to encourage new school graduates to join the technical and vocational tracks. Humaidan noted the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Labour, Bahrain Polytechnic College, and the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), which culminated in the signing of several memorandums of understanding to train and qualify graduates with specialisations that face difficulty in integrating into the labour market. All these arrangements are aimed at equipping graduates with the necessary skills that employers need, including design, digital transformation, human resources, information analysis and others. His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the close follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has paid increasing attention to upgrading the joint relationship with the production parties, and enhancing cooperation and social dialogue between the three production parties (government, employers and workers), creating an encouraging climate for work and development in the work environment. Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, met with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain, headed by Ms. Asmaa El Ganaini, in the presence of a number of officials from the ministry. Also, amongst the attendees were a number of officials in the ministry, with the participation of many institutions and companies in the private sector. The “Careers Day” aims to introduce university students and graduates to the types of professional sectors that suit their specialisations, gain experience in how to apply for jobs, prepare CVs and train to pass job interviews. The “Careers Day” included accompanying activities, including awareness and guidance meetings for the target group, under the title "Be Ready - Qualification Skills" to introduce university students to the basic professional skills required in the labour market. The research study dealt with identifying the most prominent positive results achieved by the National Employment Project during the pandemic period, in cooperation with many relevant authorities, foremost of which is the Ministry of Labour and the Labour Fund "Tamkeen". The research also focused on the preparation, qualification and selection of qualified Bahraini cadres, in light of the project's provision of many advantages and incentives encouraging job seekers and employers. The results of the applied study conducted on one of the establishments operating in the private sector showed the impact and role of the National Employment Project on this company after attracting and employing Bahraini competencies through the project, which contributed to improving the company's performance and increasing productivity. Humaidan praised this study, especially as it relates to one of the qualitative initiatives and successful experiences within the joint national efforts. It focuses on qualifying and integrating job seekers in various economic, commercial and industrial sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain within a package of initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Labour in cooperation with Tamkeen and various relevant authorities. Emphasis was also placed on developing innovative executive mechanisms to achieve the objectives of the project by providing many benefits to its beneficiaries, including specialised qualitative training and wage support. The study also showed that in light of the cooperation of employers and their contribution to achieving the objectives of the project, all parties were able to make the employment initiative a success within the economic recovery plan by making the citizen the first choice in the labour market.
Labour Minister praises the Cabinet's announcement of the "From It (Minha) to the Top" initiative

His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour, praised the announcement by the Council of Ministers, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the launch of the "From It (Minha) to the Top" initiative to support the career development of Bahrainis holding higher degrees, which allows the citizens of the country to obtain quality jobs that suit their qualifications. Accordingly, the Minister stressed that this initiative comes in light of the government's interest in enhancing career development opportunities that contribute to raising the standard of living of citizens working in the private sector, as it is the main engine of the national economy. This initiative also corresponds to a proposal submitted by the House of Representatives. Humaidan pointed out that this initiative will contribute to enhancing the opportunities offered by institutions and companies operating in the private sector to attract more national competencies who are equipped with professional skills and academic certificates. Moreover, this initiative will be a guarantor to raise the productivity levels of institutions and companies, noting in this context the efforts made by the Labour Fund "Tamkeen" to implement this initiative and other programs implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour to intensify the integration of national competencies in the labour market and provide them with the necessary support for rehabilitation and development in various work and production sites. He also indicated that the ministry is engaging all its capabilities to achieve the desired goals of this initiative within the framework of joint cooperation to develop the national workforce known for its professional ambition to reach advanced leadership positions in all productive sectors. On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Labour called on private sector establishments to take advantage of this initiative in order to develop the job performance of their employees, promote them and benefit from their wage support for a period of two years by at least 20%. He stressed that the Ministry of Labour pays increasing attention to the career advancement of Bahrainis working in the private sector, which is represented in providing employees with new academic qualifications and intensifying specialized training to enhance their personal and professional skills and abilities in line with the requirements and developments of the continuous labour market and the creation of jobs in non-traditional fields. Humaidan: The success of the economic recovery plan in speeding up employment in the private sector

Employing 7101 and training 2084 citizens in the Q1 of 2023 Number of Bahrainis in the private sector increased by 3.5% in 2022 H.E. Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), focused on the role of the economic recovery plan in achieving positive results in speeding up the pace of employment of national cadres in various functional and professional sectors in the private sector. This came in light of the employment initiative of the economic recovery plan and making the citizen the first choice in the labour market. Humaidan explained that 7,101 citizens were employed in various private sector establishments, representing 35% of the target announced within the economic recovery plan of 20,000. Also, 2084 citizens were trained during the same period out of the total announced goal of 10,000 citizens for the current year 2023. This happened, as a result of the Cabinet's review of the latest employment and training developments within the economic recovery plan, during the period from January to March 2023. His Excellency indicated that the government continues to develop and launch qualitative stimulants and provide many encouraging incentives for the employment of university students, which contributed to raising the employment rates of citizens, especially university students, to 33% of the total employees in the first quarter of 2023, compared to 30% last year. The percentage of female employment increased to 44% of the total Bahraini employees in the private sector in the first quarter of 2023 compared to 40% in 2022. This increase reflects the importance of the recently launched government initiatives to accelerate the recruitment of engineers, lawyers, doctors and various specialties. Simply put, the existence of a qualified Bahraini workforce that manages the wheel of production in all economic and commercial sectors, which is attributable for its efficiency and high self-and professional capabilities is one of the reasons for the escalating growth of the productive sectors and an encouraging factor to stimulate and attract more foreign investments to the Kingdom of Bahrain. On this issue, the Labour Minister pointed out that the growth of the national economy resulted in an increase in the number of Bahrainis working in the private sector by 3.5% in 2022. Humaidan stated that according to the indicators and developments of the labour market, the average wage of Bahrainis in the private sector by the end of 2022 reached about BD780, commending in this context the cooperation of employers, their support and encouragement of national efforts to make the citizen the first choice in the labour market and their clear endeavor to make the employment initiative a success within the economic recovery plan. The minister also praised the confidence of employers and their pride in the national workforce, relying on them and attracting them to contribute to the development process. On this subject, the ministry has taken the initiative to publish the names of the 2805 companies that contributed to the employment of Bahrainis in the first quarter of this year on its website, in recognition of its contribution to employing 7101 Bahrainis in the mentioned period. With that said, Humaidan expressed his appreciation for the keenness of young Bahrainis to invest opportunities to prove their worth for success and excellence in the fields of work and production in private sector establishments.
Minister of Labour receives the President of the Bahrain Medical Society

His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour, commended the role played by the Bahrain Medical Society in supporting national medical cadres at various levels. During his meeting with Dr. Amer Ibrahim Al-Derazi, President of the Bahrain Medical Society, in his office, to discuss enhancing cooperation, Humaidan expressed his appreciation to the society for performing its noble humanitarian mission towards the medical profession and developing workers and which, will reflect positively on the overall health and wellness of society. In this context, the minister affirmed the support of the Ministry of Labour for the Bahrain Medical Society as a means to achieve its objectives as well as, to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided by the health sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. During the meeting, many ideas and initiatives aimed at integrating Bahraini medical human resources into private health and medical centers and institutions were discussed, which are the result of joint national efforts that insist on making citizens the first choice in the labor market. For his part, Dr. Al-Derazi praised the Ministry of Labor's approach in coordination, cooperation and integration with various authorities related to the health sector in the country. In this regard, Al-Derazi praised the ministry's initiatives to rehabilitate and integrate Bahraini cadres in medical and health centers and institutions in the private sector. These include the provision of specialised quality training opportunities, wage subsidies, and other encouraging incentives for citizens and employers.
Humaidan congratulated members of the "Al Hurr Union" for awarding them leadership positions in Arab labour unions

His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, met in his office, Mr. Yaqoob Yousef Mohammed, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation “Al Hurr”. He was also accompanied by a number of “Al Hurr” union leaders who have recently obtained leadership positions in a number of Arab trade unions. Humaidan praised the victory of “Al Hurr” members who had been granted leadership positions. Next, the minister pointed out that this achievement reflects the confidence of Arab trade union organisations in the Bahraini competencies, which are a source of pride for their extensive experience in the field of union work. He reiterated that the Kingdom of Bahrain places high confidence in the significant role played by workers and trade unions in promoting the principles of partnership and social dialogue between production parties. Not to mention, their contribution to activating and improving productivity levels in various economic and commercial sectors, which contributes to supporting and stabilizing the labor market. For his part, Mohammed praised the support of the Ministry of Labour for the workforce and trade union organisations, aspiring to more cooperation between the relevant authorities in the labour market. He also focused on the importance of maintaining sustainable growth in various productive and economic sectors. It is worth mentioning that members of the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation “Al Hurr” who have recently elected are namely: Ms. Nora Mohammed Al-Faihani, Chairman of the Central Council of the Arab Federation of Banks and Financial Affairs for Workers in Banking, Insurance and Financial Business - Mr. Haitham Isa Rashdan, Assistant Secretary-General of the same Arab Federation - Ms. Safia Mohammed Shamsan, Secretary General for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Projects and Investments at the Arab Organization for Education - and Ms. Huda Mutlaq Al-Thawadi, Chairman of the Working Women Committee of the Arab Federation of Municipal and Tourism Workers. Last but important, the election of Mr. Yousef Ahmed Abdullah, Vice President of the Arab Transport Union and Mr. Abdul Aziz Yousef Al-Saad, Assistant Secretary-General for Occupational Health and Safety in the same Union.
