Humaidan: Technical cooperation with ESCWA in the field of analysis and monitoring systems for the labor market

H.E. Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, inaugurated at the ministry’s head office the workshop of the Technical Cooperation Program with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in the field of analysis and monitoring systems for the labor market between 3-4 October, organised by the Ministry of Labour. Representatives of strategic partners from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Education, the Economic Development Board, the Higher Education Council, the Supreme Council for Women, the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, the Information and eGovernment Authority, Maharat Bahrain, and other relevant authorities also participated in this workshop. The conducted activity of this workshop comes within the framework of the existing technical cooperation program between the Ministry of Labour and the United Nations committees to benefit from international experiences and expertise in the process of formulating policies and directions related to the qualification and employment of national cadres. All these initiatives and efforts are focused on analysing labour market data and indicators, preparing scientific studies and drawing future directions for skills, and employing them in order to facilitate the integration of job seekers in private sector institutions, as well as developing the national workforce in areas that attract jobs. During the workshop, the Labour Minister delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of these specialised technical workshops that are held in cooperation with ESCWA, in discussing the best international practices in the field of technical support and consultations related to analysing the actual and future labour market needs. He also noted that this cooperation comes as a resultant of the continuous efforts made by the Ministry of Labour to develop policies related to qualifying national cadres and accelerating the pace of employment in various productive sectors in synergy with strategic partners from government institutions and the private sector represented by the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Humaidan also indicated that these joint efforts will contribute to providing participants with the latest successful experiences in programs to analyse labour market indicators and variables at the international level, linking them to experiences and practices in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and working to enhance efforts and capabilities on the optimal investment of ESCWA skills monitor’s indicators, by tracking key performance indicators for the labour market, and using classification and collection techniques to produce information of interest to specialists in the fields of preparation, qualification and employment. The minister expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to all the cooperating parties in the success of this program, and to achieve benefit at the national level. It is worth noting that the two-day workshop will address a number of topics, the most prominent of which are data analysis and identification of skills required in various economic sectors, in addition to reviewing the experiences of member states in employing university graduates and acquiring the skills necessary to integrate into private sector enterprises. Other themes include the identification of specialties that have difficulty integrating into the labour market, and the development of rehabilitation programs for job seekers. The workshop will also review the best international practices on modern methods in the career guidance process for job seekers and school and university students, and the preparation of an information system on the professional skills of Bahrainis using artificial intelligence.
