Humaidan meets ILO’s Director-General and Labour Ministers in Geneva

On the sidelines of his participation in the 111th session of the ILO Conference, HE Minister of Labour Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan met with the Director-General of the ILO, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, where they discussed strengthening joint cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the ILO. During the meeting, Humaidan referred to Bahrain's latest labour achievements within the framework of its keenness to develop national systems and legislation in the labour market. He confirmed the Kingdom's continued efforts towards creating many initiatives that reflect its commitment to international labour standards. The minister also pointed to the Government of Bahrain's continuous endeavor to promote social dialogue between the three production parties (governments, employers and workers) as the main pillar for developing the relationship between the various stakeholders and ensuring the stability of the labour market. On the other hand, Humaidan referred to the initiatives and projects implemented by the Kingdom of Bahrain within the framework of caring for the rights of the workforce, ensuring equality between various categories of workers, as well as regulating labour relations, business development and productivity. HE the Minister of Labour also met with many ministers of labour, heads of delegations and heads of international and Arab organisations, to discuss ways to develop labour cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and friendly and brotherly countries and prospects for coordination and exchange of successful experiences and expertise. During the conference, several coordination meetings were held at various levels between the delegations representing the participating GCC countries with the purpose to coordinate and consult on the issues and topics presented to the conference. In these meetings, Humaidan reviewed the most prominent features of Bahrain's experience in regulating the labour market, and its efforts in implementing many initiatives to recruit and qualify nationals and integrate them into the private sector. Whilst taking in account the initiatives taken by the Kingdom in strengthening social protection through the unemployment insurance system, as well as, in promoting equality in the labour market and its actions in the area of combating discrimination and achieving job stability. His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour, also met with Director-General of the Arab Labor Organization, Mr. Fayez Ali Al-Mutairi, and discussed with him ways to enhance the role of the organisation in following up on labour and production issues in the Arab countries in accordance with the standards and agreements issued by the ALO.
